My name is Anna Miron, and I am a Creative Director, Designer, and Stylist based in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. I have a background in architecture and interior design, a serious passion for food, and a longing for the culture of the Pacific Northwest.

SS.012 / MAKE HAPPY • The holidays are an elaborate and difficult dance when living with chronic pain. I notoriously abandon any consideration for my physical comfort and instead focus on how I can work to support my family to the best of my ability and availability. From working extra gigs for more money for gifts, to planning and cooking dinners, and spending parties sneaking medicine to try and get it through it all with a smile. All I ever want to do is make sure we’re all together, and we’re all happy. Then January hits and I’m feeling a shell of myself. This year, I’ll be more honest with myself and others. This year, I’ll give myself a break if I can’t be at 100% on demand. This year, I’ll make happy happen from within. [pictured: maple brown butter whipped sweet potatoes with savory granola]

FLEETING • In the ugliest part of the city, on the longest walk of the weekend, during the hottest part of the day, we found this. This small, beautiful, colorful, peaceful moment. • This October has been terribly cruel to so many of my friends and family members. Surgeries, tragedies, and so many haunting unknowns are plaguing those closest to my heart. I can’t help but carry it all inside me, trudging through the days as work and home stresses pile on, feeling helpless as I witness everyone suffer. On the verge of collapse, I’m struggling to find ways to be there for everyone while I can barely stand on my own two feet. But it’s these tiny moments, these small, fleeting victories that are keeping us all going. Feeling thankful for a little extra family time this weekend, and hoping it holds us all over until the next.

SS.011 / KITH + KIN • I am so lucky to count my cousins among my best friends. My childhood was filled with so many memories with cousins from all sides of my family, and as we continue to grow up, a lot of us have grown even closer. We have all lived far apart for most of our adult lives, but we have been each other’s biggest cheerleaders throughout our adventures and adversities. We’ve even been lucky enough to add some pretty amazing permanent members to our group. My cousins have also been a constant source of compassion, understanding, support, and comfort throughout my endometriosis journey—with many of them going through similar symptoms and surgeries themselves (thanks, genetics!). I always look forward to our time together, and am constantly inspired by each and every one. To my oldest and truest friends: thank you and I love you! MAKE IT HAPPEN • When I was younger, I closed my eyes and dreamt of a workspace like this. After a year of planning and excuses to not get started, I finally made it happen. I built this beautiful beast of a home office with my own two hands. I already spent some time working on design deadlines here and I finally feel like the badass boss I’ve been working so hard to become. The real hero in all of this is my dad. Yes, he helped me cut the desk to size on his day off. But—more importantly—he motivates the hell out of me with the simplest words: “Just get it done.” Months of anxiety, indecision, sticker shock, distraction, and excuses were just completely obliterated because DUH—it IS that simple. Just put the hard work in and make it happen. He taught me that.

PERSEVERE • After watching UVA win the title and Tiger win a major, I’m feeling incredibly inspired by their patience and persistence. The first three months of 2019 were dark and difficult, but I’m determined to bounce back and regain control of my happiness. So far, April has brought open windows, baseball games, barefoot grilling, outside beers, and a big ol’ breath of fresh air. SS.010 / SELF-PRESERVATION • I retreat in silence. I hide in the dark. I ignore the world. To some, it seems rude and selfish, and that’s been one of the hardest challenges to conquer in living with an invisible illness. But I see it as lonely and necessary. I’ve learned to embrace the loneliness, but still can’t quite acknowledge how crucial it is to my survival. I’m always apologizing (a long-term work in progress), and I always feel guilty for not showing up, not being mentally present, and not being physically able to express myself like I should. It’s taxing on relationships and I know I’m not easy to live with. But I know it’s necessary, to step back and sink into the darkness. Chronic pain is more than physical—the mental and emotional tolls should not be overlooked or ignored. Practice self-care when you can. Practice self-preservation when you can’t. NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY • As we move towards a new season, I’ve been careful to stop and absorb all the beauty and energy around me, even when it’s been cloaked in uncertainty. Don’t settle, don’t take the good for granted, and remember to pause—you’ll be thankful you did when it’s gone.
